On October 3, 2025, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume will officially become Luxembourg’s head of state, following a year-long transition. Announced by Grand Duke Henri in his 2024 Christmas speech, this historic moment marks the end of Henri’s nearly 25-year reign and the beginning of a new chapter for the Grand Duchy.

The Duck Race is a beloved annual charity event organized by the Rotary Club Luxembourg, held each April in the Grund. “Summer an der Stad” (or “Summer in the City”) is Luxembourg City’s vibrant summer program, featuring outdoor concerts, exhibitions, theater performances, shopping, and cultural events.

The Francofolies is a music festival which takes place in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Did you know Esch is on the border with France? Well, this music festival is largely French-speaking artists, but some of the largest French language acts out there. Notable acts to be featured this year include Soprano, Julien Doré, Timmy Trumpet, Michel Polnareff and many more.

The National Holiday is supposed to be the Grand Duke’s Birthday, but since the time of Grand Duchess Charlotte is has always been kept on June 23rd in honor of her. Few countries celebrate their national day with more enthusiasm than the USA and Luxembourg. The day includes a Military Parade, Te Deum Mass, concerts, and events throughout the country. The evening of June 22nd is traditionally a significant party with fireworks in Luxembourg City.

This year, the Twin Cities Luxembourg American Society is holding a picnic over the weekend of Nationalfeierdag to bring Luxembourg dual citizens together.

The picnic will be potluck-style and will include a presentation of “Ons Heemecht,” the Luxembourg national anthem, followed by a short Luxembourg-themed trivia contest. Those interested in joining can bring something to grill and something to share. They also welcome those interested in genealogy to bring the names and places in Luxembourg their ancestors are from.

Hey, we’re not going to pretend Luxembourg Pride week holds a glittery candle to São Paulo, New York, Amsterdam, or London, but yes there is a LGBT pride festival event in Luxembourg. By the way, a lot of Luxembourgish society’s most prominent members are LGBT individuals and usually present at these events. There is historically a parade that US Embassy Staff participate in.

Bands perform on various stages, with the UNESCO-listed fortress providing a scenic backdrop. Throughout the month of December, there is no question that Luxembourg’s Christmas markets are king. Featuring handicrafts, traditional foods, Gluhwëin (mulled wine), live bands, and even fair-type rides (in Luxembourg City), these Christmas markets pop up all over the country. It’s certainly a sight to see.
